I loved how you connected films like "Marley and Me" and "The Notebook" to how we as horror fans are affected by similar base concepts of life and death.CinemaPathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15810013759944832788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196027464292144707.post-67420206971831563972010-05-19T17:53:35.301-07:002010-05-19T17:53:35.301-07:00I will be publishing my top ten disturbing horror ...I will be publishing my top ten disturbing horror films soon and working on top disturbing non horror films. I knew I was missing out but I write fluidly. Thus even while I was tempted to stop and take stock I was afraid the piece would suffer more than just letting it flow, putting it out there and possibly rewriting later. I really wanted to focus on while gory films can be disturbing those psycological "mind fucks" disturb on a wholely diffferent level.Lord Dixiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11183337128967368613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196027464292144707.post-31355036960574194372010-05-19T17:38:51.465-07:002010-05-19T17:38:51.465-07:00I like where you're going...I think maybe you ...I like where you're going...I think maybe you are missing the schism between psychological horror and physical horror, and how modern horror is also manipulating the identity of the individual with films like the Crazies, 28 Days Later, and to even a greater extent in the opposite direction with OldBoy, Falling Down, Kill Bill.
I think that a few extreme movies could be included here to illustrate that its not only horror that makes us cringe but other non-horror as well (ie Irreversible, Requiem Fro A Dream, Ken Russel's Whore).
I also believe that you have touched a big nerve when you pointed out that Big Studios have pushed the Rated R envelope with flicks like the Hills Have Eyes remake and Hannibal...someone who has seen nothing but what the Big Studios and the local Blockbuster offer as genre fare gives them the illusion that they have an opinion of the whole genre, when flicks like Nekromantik, and Shatter Dead would melt their perceptions of the boundaries of the genre.
It's all horror, and its all good.Syconoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196027464292144707.post-83365351425099928462010-05-19T15:09:31.501-07:002010-05-19T15:09:31.501-07:00I know if I watch "fluff" like a will sm...I know if I watch "fluff" like a will smith comedy. I might remember a one liner or a joke, but when I watch Oldboy, even though at heart it is juist a revenge film, it makes me think. It sticks with me. Even Cannibal Holocaust which the director said he made just to cash in on the cannibal craze ends up havign a powerful message which, if you get past the animal slaughter, makes you think. martyrs wills tick with me forever, don't know if I will ever be able to watch it again but it is pwerfulLord Dixiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11183337128967368613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2196027464292144707.post-47275928155103280272010-05-19T14:46:06.374-07:002010-05-19T14:46:06.374-07:00Well - that might explain *certain folk's* add...Well - that might explain *certain folk's* addiction to the genre' - but I'm still out on the fringe - looking in and wondering. I suppose if you have deep enough wounds, healed over by thick enough scars, it TAKES something like the deeper Horror films to "get through" and move your emotions. Otherwise - dunno ~Barb Snoreply@blogger.com
