The Last Exorcism: best possession film since The exorcist

August 27 horror fans will have to decide between he new Piranha 3-D remake or a new film from producer Eli Roth, The Last Exorcist. The last Exorcism is the latest in a long line of films dealing with demonic possession. Most of these films have not come close to the original The Exorcist from 1973.

Eli Roth is best known for directing the films Hostel and Cabin Fever. The Last Exorcism will be directed by Daniel Stramm. Stamm is a relative newcomer to the horror genre but from the looks of the advance one sheet poster he will soon be well recognized. The poster can be seen at the official movie site and features a young possessed girl, bent over in an impossible position.

The plot concerns the Reverend Cotton Marcus, a fundamentalist preacher who has made his living by performing exorcisms. Feeling remorse for his past sham exorcisms, he agrees to one more exorcism. He agrees to have the exorcism filmed and plans on outing himself as a fraud for the camera. Arriving at the farm of Louis Sweetzer, he expects to find just another disturbed religious fanatic, but instead finds a true evil force possessing the farmer's daughter. The Reverend Marcus must find a way to over come his own doubts, and guilt, to save the girl.

While Stramm is a relative unknown, the German director does have four films to his credit including A Necessary Death in 2008. It premiered at SXSW in 2008 and later won the audience award at the American Film Institute.



Roth is well known to horror fans. With Cabin Fever ,and even more so with Hostel, he helped usher blood and gore back into the theatrical horror movie. Roth being attached to The Last Exorcist would seem to guarantee it a R rating. The film is rumored to be very visually disturbing with very startling and realistic imagery. The film's tag line "believe in him" is chilling in its possible implications.

Sauna trailer

Want to watch a creepy ass movie? Check out Sauna. It is bleak but beautiful and ultimately disturbing in a way that is hard to explain. I'm not sure I know what the hell was going on most of the time but I still loved it. Check out the trailer.

Black Death - Official Trailer - In UK Cinemas June 11th

I love period horror and this film really looks beautiful. It stars Sean Bean from a little series of films known as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Bean plays the part of a knight tasked to hunt down the witch responsible for causing the plague. Famke Janssen was attached with the project to play the witch but dropped out and was replaced by the drop dead gorgeous Carice van Houten.

Ronnie James Dio dead

Ronnie James Dio, the heavy metal legend has passed away after a year long battle with stomach cancer. Dio is prehaps most famout for replacing Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath. He did three stints as lead singer of Black Sabbath, although his last tour with Sabbath thye used the name Heaven and Hell. He cofounded Rainbow in 1975 with Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame. HE also fronted his own band, Dio. Some of his most famous songs include Holy Diver and The End of the Line. His wife Wendy reported his death on his website.

Ronnie was 67 years old and definitely died too soon. His voice was unmistakeable and his songs were pure poetry. He will be missed not only by metal heads but by music fans all around the world.

Night of the Demons 2010 Official Trailer HD

Release date is supposedly September 23. It is a remake so not expecting much but Shannon Elizabeth and Diora Baird are nice to look at. All I really know is that if they don't do the lipstick scene I'm demanding my money back

OPEN HOUSE Trailer

Don't know if you have heard about it but Open House is the new thriller written and directed by Andrew Paquin. Andrew just happens to be the brother of Anna Paquin star of True Blood and Trick r Treat. Anna appears in the film along with her True Blood (and real life) co-star Stephen Moyer. The film also stars Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer. The film is Andrew Paquin's directorial debut. OPen House is set to be released on DVD August 3 2010
